About Samapi

6 Feb 2010

Samapi is one of three babies that were born into the Kabirizi Family in 2009. That year brought tremendous relief to the people who live near the park because the war ended, the social and political situation stabilised and the Rangers began rebuilding Virunga National Park. There was more good news to come in 2009 as Mahisho gave birth to a male, baby gorilla that we called Samapi. It’s an amalgamation of Samantha and Pierre; the names of two people who were prominent in the life of the park during 2009.
